Symposium ‘Japanese Art from the Royal Collections’

On Thursday afternoon, 17 September, the Stichting Koninklijk Paleis te Amsterdam (Royal Palace Amsterdam Foundation), in collaboration with the Royal Collections (Koninklijke Verzamelingen), will organise a symposium at the Royal Palace Amsterdam. The symposium accompanies the presentation 'The Netherlands and Japan: Connected Through Time', on view at the Palace from 26 June to 27 September to mark the state visit by the Emperor of Japan. The presentation brings together a special selection of Japanese works of art.

During the symposium, leading speakers from the Netherlands and abroad, including Rachel Peat (Royal Collection Trust), Estelle Bauer (Musée Guimet), Daan Kok (Wereldmuseum) and Menno Fitski (Rijksmuseum Amsterdam), together with experts from the Royal Collections, will explore what these objects reveal about court culture, diplomacy and the centuries-old relationship between Japan and the Netherlands.

We warmly invite those with an interest in and knowledge of Japan to apply for a place at the symposium. Participation is free of charge. Applications will be reviewed based on their relevance to the theme. A carefully selected and balanced guest list will then be drawn up. Those wishing to attend can register before 1 July via https://forms.office.com/e/TAhPN2D5Da
